Time With Joseph: False Alarm

“But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭40:14-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭40:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In this verse, I see Joseph’s glimmer of hope. He’s suffered all these injustices and it finally seems like things are starting to look up. This man’s release appears to him to be a sign from God that his release is coming as well.

It is true that the cup bearer’s release was a sign of Joseph’s imminent release but he did not quite get the timing right. The cup bearer forgot immediately he got out.

Sometimes God gives us a sign of what is to come, but the timing might not always be what we are thinking.

We see this a lot in our lives. Things aren’t going or feeling that great, we try our best to be hopeful and at the first sign of things to come round, we hold on to it, expecting immediate success.

But time still takes its course. Sometimes God shows us things so that we are reminded that He has not forgotten us, even when that may seem to be the case. But it never means we should throw away patience or stop focusing on the here and now because of our hopes of what is to come.

I have a personal example. Over Christmas I reconnected with a family friend and I was soooooo excited. OMG fine dude, six pack (for real) and generally a nice person. Finally leaving single hood. Whoop! And Yay! I was happy o. Won’t even lie. Only to get back to London and find this dude takes like hundred years to reply one text message 🙄. I had thought great, got the go ahead let the fun and games begin ... but that’s not what happened. And now I still have to wait ...

Does this mean I will be single for life ? No. Just means that there’s a lot of patience required when one is walking with God.

The simple reminder today is that God’s timing is perfect. Tomorrow we will see why.

Have a great day all!
