Problem Child

The problem with an unmastered mind

Is that it has no allegiance

And because it is unruly

It lets in all sorts

Of lies, abuse, negativity … and more lies

Some voices in my head wanted to make me feel worthless

And my mind did nothing to defend me

Problem child, they said

Always having a problem wherever you go

Problem child, they said

Always causing your mother worry

Problem child, they said

When will you make something of yourself?

Problem child, they said

Why is it always you?

Problem child, they said

Lazy, they said

Scared, they said

Spoilt, they said

Lacking, they said

Unable, they said

Feeble, they said

No faith, they said

And so they said,
Plenty

They said plenty

But I had to remind myself

That everything is permissible

But not all things build up

That not all thoughts are true

And very few voices are worth listening to
